The popularity of Turkey as a holiday destination

This article is for those people who are still unaware that Turkey has become one of the most sought after tourist destinations over recent years. Now find out why.

Climate

With over 300 days of sunshine per year, the Turkish climate is fantastic. The climate is so good, that it has affectionately been called the "New Spain." In fact, Spanish tourists have themselves begun to visit Turkey in larger and larger numbers. In 2007 alone, 200 000 Spaniards visited Turkey.

EU membership

Since becoming a member of the EU, Turkey has been accepted as part of the European community, and more and more Europeans have been investing in the Turkish property market. However, it still remains one of the most affordable destinations in Europe.

Landscape

Like Spain, it has picturesque beaches and a long coastline that meets the Mediterranean. As such, there has been huge development in Villas, especially golf villas, around the country to attract the jet set and make Turkey a must-see destination for tourists. Its coastline is over 5000 miles in length ( over 8000 km)

Ease of purchase

Laws passed in 2007 by the Turkish government have made it easier for foreign nationals to purchase property. Despite a steady increase in property prices, homes in Turkey still offer tremendous value for money, particularly if one compares it to other destinations where UK expats have traditionally bought homes, such a Portugal, Spain and Florida (USA). In fact, one can still find cheap Turkish villas on offer.

Excellent holiday destination

Traditionally, Turkey has focused on archaeologically and historically motivated tourists. That has changed over the last few years, with the number of 'regular' tourists increasing dramatically. Figures show that tourist numbers have gone up from 8 million visitors in 2000 to nearly 31 million in 2008.

The numbers have risen for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the overwhelming choice of activities that tourists have. There are many things to do in Turkey; enough to cater for every taste. From health care and spa facilities to seaside resorts and golf courses, Turkey has it all.

Affordable property market

The financial crisis has made mortgage payments unaffordable for some foreign investors. The latest data now shows that foreign home owners have been looking to offload some of their investments, with the number of homes for sale on the increase. This represents a great opportunity for those with cash in hand.
